1. Practitioner's Podcast: Back for More: The Start of Season 3!
This week on the practitioner's podcast, we show you the listeners what's ahead what we've done and where God's taken us. We're excited to jump. Welcome back to the practitioner's podcast, season three. So excited to be here with you today as always the practitioner's podcast is powered by navigator's church ministries.
For more information, or to get connected, go to navigator's church ministries.org, season three, Justin Gravitt welcome. Hey, we're back. We are back, back and better than ever. I'm so excited. I know that you've counted down the days until you could see my beautiful smile and face on squad. Absolutely. Well, we're a podcast, so we have the faces for radio.
So that's amazing for us. I think this year we might do a YouTube channel. Let's do it. Let's do it. oh, man. , how was your. It was super fast, but really good. Really good too. How about you? It, it was really good. Ours was good. I, I got to go to a couple of camps and, , baseball is my favorite season. So it's been fun and now football's here.
Fall is in the air and here comes the practitioner's podcast. This episode is all about where we've been and where God's taken us next. Yeah. So why don't you kind of kick off the idea about the last two seasons and we'll talk a little bit more about this third season. Yeah, absolutely. So, as I was thinking about kind of our journey so far in the practitioner's podcast, this journey with you guys, the listeners.
And now beginning embark on our third season, I began to think about it like this, that kind of the first season was like, when you go to the grocery store and the things at eye level are the things that the, the store expects you to buy. They're trying to push that. Right. And for us season one, not that we are trying to push anything, we're not selling anything.
But season one was kind of the first things that we thought people should see or think about when they think about disciple making. Right. And so we talked a lot in season one about vision, about kind of the why of disciple making. We got into the growth phases of a disciple and kind of what's needed most, , for each phase we talked about getting clarity and developing clarity of language and definitions.
And so that was kind of our first shelf, right? As you walk in, there's the first things that we thought people should be looking at or thinking. When it comes to disciple making. And so I know we probably have listeners from all over the spectr of those who have been with us since episode one and maybe those who this is their first episode.
And so we want you to know what's already been done, , so that you can jump in wherever it fits you. So that's kind of season one. And if you have stuck with us with us since the beginning of season one, thank you. We know that we're like a fine wine. We're only getting better with age. Absolutely. , okay.
I'm gonna jump into season two and talk a bit about that. Now, if we use Justin's shelf metaphor. Season two is a little bit higher than season one, meaning that it's a little bit more of a reach. It's a little bit more intentional in season two, we talked about some of the, the big things around disciple making, as it pertains to your church.
We talked about culture, right? How does it. How do you create a disciple making culture? We talked about conserism. We did a whole series on conserism. And if you haven't listened to that, I strongly recommend it. It's one of my favorite, , kind of set of episodes that we've ever done and then engagement, right?
How do we engage disciple making season two is kind of that next level thought process. This is really helpful. If you are a leader in the church, if you've got a group of people who you're trying to teach about disciple making, I recommend going back to listen to season. Or if you're really brave, go back and serial, listen to all of them all the way up to season three.
Justin, why don't you tell us a little bit about what will be on season three? Yeah. Hey, look that rhyme that rhymes. Did you hear it? That was amazing. Did you do that on purpose? No, but I should be a rapper there you go. , so that wasn't a joke but it was funny. It was funny. , So at the end of season two, we were kind of debating, right?
Do we need another season? Is there another shelf worth of things that will be helpful because we are committed as kind of the, , the ones who are leading and guiding you guys in this practitioner's podcast, we're committed to it being helpful in your context and practical, right? Not just driven by more information.
For most people won't be actionable or helpful. I like to say that information without a purpose is worthless. And so, yeah. , we, we talked and we prayed and we thought, and we sought God and we felt strongly that there was quite a bit more that we can jump into. That's gonna be helpful, , for the everyday disciple maker.
And so season three, the focus is gonna be. Continuing to clarify disciple making and doing that by distinguishing it from other things that it's, it's normally confused with, or that normally people use words and kind of conflate them together, use them as stand-ins for, , disciple making it kind of gets confusing.
So we're gonna continue to clarify. We're also gonna have some episodes on tools that disciple makers use. And so. And an audio for, , audio medi rather it's so it'll be a little bit challenging, but we're gonna have enough downloadables in the show notes and stuff like that, that you guys are gonna be able to follow along.
Hopefully learn some new tools that you can then apply in your disciple, making relationships, whatever those look like. And we're going to be committed to continuing the super practical nature of our podcast. So that's what season three is gonna be looking. You know, the other thing about season three is that you and I kind of decided prayerfully that we're gonna adapt a new rhythm.
So it'll feel a little different because we're gonna go every other week on the episodes, but we're actually gonna do it for a longer duration. So again, think about this podcast as a tool in your disciple, making toolbox, we want to walk alongside you. As you walk alongside the people that you're discipling so that we all can do Jesus style disciple making, and that takes time.
So we're gonna go labor day to Memorial day, and then along the way we're gonna sprinkle in with a touch of love. more bonus episodes. How did you, you like that too? Didn't you? , that's amazing. What's what's a bonus episode though. What is that? , a bonus episode is some of the content that you and I get to create on other platforms.
And so, , a great example is Justin and I did something for discipleship.org. Justin's been on a couple other podcasts and, , he's gearing up for a big book launch, not for a while. So he. Eventually , he's, he's gonna have an opportunity to speak more and more about what Jesus style disciple making looks like.
And we're gonna get that content to you as well. And that was really hble of you. Cause you didn't mention any of your stuff, but you're also on other podcasts talking about disciple making. And so some of those will be dropped to, in other words, this is gonna be your one stop shop for the best audio disciple making stuff that you and I know of.
, and, you know, obviously we wanna make sure that you're equipped and prepared to do disciple making in your local community, your local church. Mm-hmm . I think that's one of the things that you and I both really appreciate about kind of, , the work that we get to do and the partnership that we have as a podcast with navigator church ministries.
Because their mission is all about helping local churches kind of establish that culture of disciple making that transforms the church and the community. So we're gonna kind of bring all that together with big old arms around it and, and drop it in one audio format. Delivered to your phone or computer every single time it drops.
Yep. And so those are some of the changes. Some of the things that are not changing episodes are gonna continue to be about the same length around 20 minutes. Each they're gonna be super focused and practical and designed for you. So as we think about what we're gonna be talking about, how we're gonna be talking about.
We think about you the everyday disciple maker, , in your context, right? And so many of you, , have nine to five jobs you're in the workplace, you're in the community. , some of you, your primary, , contribution is within the local church. And some of you are part of a local church, but your primary contribution is outside in the workplace neighborhood, wherever.
And so we wanna help you wherever you are, , be really effective in making disciples who go and make disciples. So those are the things that are gonna stay the same. Those are the things that are gonna be changing. I am super excited to start this season and to, to continue, , really the conversation that we've been having for.
, now moving into our third season. So today's episode has a really simple takeaway. It's gonna be a great season. Yep. We're excited. We can't wait to walk alongside you. As you make disciples of Jesus Christ. The action step is. one of the easiest ones that you're gonna get from us all season, which is hit that subscribe button, where every you listen to podcasts.
, we would also really love it. If you leave us a rating review on iTunes or Spotify, those ratings really go a long way in helping people find the podcast. So hit that subscribe button first, make sure you don't miss a single episode, especially those bonus episodes, cuz we're not really sure when they're gonna drop and that way they'll get delivered straight to your phone.
